The Motherhood Metamorphosis
They say that when a baby is born, so is a mother. But while you are there to help your baby grow into the person he or she is meant to be, who is there to help you? Many women feel lost and alone when they become mothers, wondering “who AM I now?”
Sometimes it feels like transformation from woman to mother is as radical as a caterpillar’s transformation into a butterfly.
Did you know that inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar literally turns into goop before it rearranges itself into a butterfly? This podcast is about the goop, what soul transformation looks like as you transition from being a woman to a mom.
Your baby’s growth matters. But yours does too. You’re not alone. I’m your host, Brittany Meng.
Welcome to the Motherhood Metamorphosis.

Julie K. Rhodes is an actor and author. In March of 2020, Julie was a healthy 30- something with a husband, two kids, a pug, and a professional acting career. A month later, she would be fighting an illness that her health team would come to believe was COVID-19. For the next year and a half, the virus would plague Julie with debilitating symptoms. She is the author of Chronic Grace: Prayers, Saints, and Thorns That Stay published in 2023.
Julie narrates her health journey through long Covid, where she experienced debilitating chronic illness for 18 months. As a mother of 2 young children, this was a life-altering experience. She also relates how she had to come to a new sense of self and acceptance as she was no longer able to do the acting work she loved.
Our conversation is honest and vulnerable as we discuss frantic striving for answers and quiet acceptance of reality, learning to hold on and let go, and leaning into story and faith to find strength and healing.
